Trendy plant shop PlantHouse is opening this Saturday, October 24 next to Taco Mama in Dilworth.

The Virginia-based plant store is both a workshop and a bar. You can peruse the selection of plants with a glass of wine or attend a workshop to learn how to make your own terrarium. It's sort of like the plant version of Charlotte-favorite Candle Bar in South End, only there's a bar on site.

Coronavirus impact: Bailey Ryan, co-owner of PlantBar, says the decision to rebrand comes after having to pivot her business during the quarantine. She told the Agenda that PlantBar doesn't just sell products, but rather provides customers with an experience.

Due to the coronavirus, customers haven't been able to come into the store to enjoy that experience. So Bailey and her parents decided to expand their business model to offer more products for a plant-centric lifestyle. Think plant-based apothecary, plant-based cleaning supplies, and even home decor. One of their current bestsellers is the DIY terrarium kit.

Workshops: Guests can expect workshops for gardening, soap making, and more. Bailey says, "Anything that involves plants … we're doing it."

PlantHouse will even offer yoga classes once state regulations allow. Most workshops are $35 a person (materials included) and will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday through Saturday, with the occasional Sunday event. For the time being, workshops will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Retail: There's a floor-to-ceiling plant wall where you can select or get matched with a plant that suits your lifestyle. You'll also find shelves stocked with ceramic vases, planters, and everything you need to create a terrarium.

The bar: Enjoy beer, wine, or even mimosas while you build a terrarium. No spirits served.

Expansion: This is PlantHouse's first Charlotte location, but Bailey says they're hoping to expand to other major cities in the southeast including Raleigh and Charleston. They also have locations in Virginia Beach and Richmond.

Location: It's opening next to Taco Mama in a new development called Park Square Small Shops, also home to the New York Butcher Shoppe. The exact location is 2452 Park Rd, Suite D.
